A true friend, gentleman and industry driver; Charlie, you will be missed

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Yesterday Charlie Krieger passed away. Charlie was a good friend of many in the data center world, working for years to improve the energy efficiency of our data centers. Charlie first worked hard to improve the reliability of the electrical systems of our data centers and then the energy efficiency before energy efficiency was a common industry consideration. He asked the difficult questions, like: “why we do it this way and why we can’t try it another way.” He was a friend, always staying in touch, always a gentleman, cordial, polite, kind to all. He was an icon, an innovator and educator of many, including myself. I still remember conversations with Charlie in which he taught me things about electrical engineering that I use and apply in my work daily. But more importantly, he taught me thru his actions to ask the important questions, challenge the ways of doing things to make it better instead of accepting the status quo, and most importantly, that of being a gentleman and true spirit of our industry. Charlie, I will miss your good humor, your provocative questions and endless positive spirit. Your friendly collaboration and unselfish drive to help all of us be better than we were has made us better. You are already missed and how I wish I had one more good question from you to challenge me again.
